EBlog

Get around multi-page articles on the web.

Many online newspapers and magazines publish their articles in a multi-page format. That is, you read a few paragraphs, then have to click a link to continue reading. Why do they do this? Because people don’t like scrolling? Nah. They do it so they can put more ads in front of you and make more money.

However, for my money (a.k.a. time), it’s easier to scroll through one long page (my scroll wheel works really well, and I always know where it is - unlike litte, single-digit page links at the bottom of an article page).

So, how do you get around this usability quagmire and stick it to “the man” all at once? Click the “printer-friendly” or “print this article” type of links that almost all of these publications also offer. There you go. One page of scrollable and printable (sure, if you hate trees!) goodness - and usually only one ad to boot!

p.s. While poking around for links for this blog post, I noticed that the NY Times offers a “single page” link on their multi-page stories. Thank you, Khoi!

Glad you posted that link under “Nah.” I missed it the first time around.

The content was compelling. I scrollllled and scrolllllled. Then scrolled some more. Down through so many reader comments. Almost to the bottom …then I cracked and bailed.
