Making the big sites better
April 24, 2006 | Posted by: Marty
Andy Rutledge added another site to his series of UI/Design/IA examinations for some of the biggest sites on the net. He points out mistakes the designers made (even though these sites are wildly successful) and presents options to correct them.
The latest, a realignment of whitehouse.gov, focuses on the fact that the current site “looks like a podunk, backwater town’s newsblog.” How does he make it better? Read Andy’s White House Redux
Also check out his analysis and realignments of eBay (which surprisingly looks a lot like the new eBay Express offering that just launched) and one site you may have heard of, Google.

Ok, I missed this post the first time around. Good stuff.
I’ve been pushing the idea of redesigning famous sites around here for as long as I can remember. I think doing stuff like this can position you as a thought leader while working out the design/UI/IA muscles as well as possibly lead to new business… Why not?
