Technology Trending from Top Bloggers
March 17, 2008 | Posted by: Neil
Ad Age Digital recently put on an article titled Crystal Ball 2.0 in which they asked some of the more powerful bloggers in the interactive space to predict which technologies marketers need to pay the most attention to. Its worth a read, but a few items stand out:
Micro Blogging Platforms
- Services like Twitter are allowing users to communicate in new ways. The question is, can and how will marketers get involved?
Site Optimization
- While the idea web analytics and metrics may not be foreign to most marketers, optimization platforms such as Google's Website Optimizer will create much clearer steps towards site improvement. Marketers can focus more on conversion rates and less on bounce rate, time on page, navigation funnels and the 15,000 other statistics Google Analytics provides.
Compelling Content
- While new technologies are allowing users to interact with the web in hundreds, if not thousands of new ways, one constant holds true; the content must be engaging, interesting and relevant. Great example for marketers: these Blendtec videos that increased sales by 30% at a cost of roughly $50 per video, while top tier interactive agencies pump 100's of millions into interactive ad buys that strive for half that level of impact.
While most marketers are currently dedicating time and resources to figuring out how to break into the Facebook's and Digg's of the world, how many are already strategizing for the next wave? If not, should they be? Or is trying to keep up a fruitless battle?

Good points.
The most frequent question I encounter from B2B technology marketers is “Should my brand be on Facebook?” The simple answer is yes...or no, depending on where you prospects are.
Social media is just that - social. If I want to socialize with my friends it doesn’t make much sense for me to go to a Bingo hall since that’s not where my friends hang out (although it might be in a few years).
Does one need to take advantage of social media? Yes. But it would make sense to concentrate on the social media one’s prospects use.
