The guys over at Future Now do a monthly post on top ten retailers by conversion rate as reported by Nielson. And since metrics like these don't yet exist in the world of B2B sites, we must continue to glean what we can from our B2C counterparts...

- Office Depot - 25.8%
- Lands End - 24.8%
- QVC - 19.4%

- HSN - 16.8%
- Vistaprint - 16.8%
- Oriental Trading Company - 16.5%
- Williams-Sonoma - 15.6%
- eBay - 14.8%
Any sites on there you wouldn't have expected?

I’m more surprised by who isn’t on this list, namely, Amazon.com

Hmmm… It actually suprised me that Ebay was on here, which I would put in the same category as Amazon in that they likely get a number of visitors who hit there site without knowing exactly what they want.
Where as I imagine my when a grandmother hits HSN.com to order, she knows exactly what she wants which would increase her chances of converting.
Although now that I think about it, I image Ebay’s “converisons” are bids, which are a bit less of a commitment than an actual purchase....

Yeah, and I imagine Amazon gets a lot of product researchers looking for customer reviews, comparing prices, etc. that don’t lead to conversions - or at least not on the initial visit.
